LATELY

Ahh, it's been a while, hasn't it? Sorry for the unexpected hiatus. I was lucky enough to be able to go back home to our friend's funeral, which was filled to the brim with people who loved him and his family, and it was indescribable to turn around from the front rows of the church and see the sea of what looked like 800+ lives this man and his family had touched.

While I was back home, I somehow got sicker than I've ever gotten in years (along with a lot of my husband's side of the family when they came to visit us in San Antonio), but I was so loved and taken care of by my sweet parents for almost an entire week.

It's sad to think that a loss of a beautiful person and extreme sickness are sometimes the only instances when I remember how precious it is to have life and health. I think after this past week, if I could only choose one adjective to describe myself, it would be grateful. And I hope I could fit that description in years to come.
Along with being grateful, I've decided it's time to slowly begin (seriously) doing the things I always said that I would do "one day," when it seemed to finally fit my schedule. What I realize now is that there is no perfect time, and the beginning will be squeaky and ugly at times. I just need to see the beauty in mistakes and the joy in the exploration of learning.

So, I want to expand my understanding of nature and photography, I want to learn how to play an instrument (I think I'll try the ukulele!!), I'm going to finally use the vintage sewing machine my mom bought me over a year ago, and I'm going to begin coding bit by bit. I went with my husband to Barnes and Noble and scuttled around like a small excited child, and he found and bought me this coding book that's actually filled with graphics that are interesting and pretty. I can now genuinely say that I'm excited to expand my nerd knowledge!

I mean really...there are too many exciting things in life not to try, and there's no point sitting in a puddled heap staring into space wondering what to do next (something I do all too often).

Hope you've been doing wonderfully the past week!! I've missed you guys. :)

P.S. I'll be going on a short trip to Austin to reunite with long-lost friends scattered from Texas to California, so I don't think I'll be able to check in until next week. Until then, ciao! Can't wait to catch up agin on Monday!!

IN REMEMBRANCE

A dear family friend unexpectedly passed away yesterday. He was an amazing husband and father, and he always was willing to help anyone with a genuine happiness. I hope to live my life to the fullest the way he and his family have done.

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

BIRTHDAY BOYS

Sorry I've been missing!

It's my husband's birthday today, and I've happily been up to my eyeballs in balloons, cake, homemade cards and candles (we found a Darth Vader one with a lightsaber, HA!), with the help of my sweet sister.

These are kinda girly flowers, but don't they look so pretty amidst all those white balloons?

Anyway, gotta go pick up the birthday dinner (didn't cook this time), and then comes the hopefully epic massage! I promised I'd do a 1.5 hour massage for the boy, and the room is waiting with a TON of tea-light candles floating in bowls of water. Surely it won't all somehow catch on fire....right?

At least balloons are safe! Well that is...unless our dog is anywhere near to bite them into oblivion.

Have the best day!!

INSPIRED BY SIMPLICITY

...and big sisters who are willing to be the source of inspiration for younger sisters. I just finished coaxing my sister into modeling a few poses for me, and I can't WAIT to illustrate her.

Isn't her slender yoga frame perfect for drawing??
She also agreed to my weird requests to balance a heavy glass vase of flowers on top of her head so that I could create a life-like version of this painting. It's so cool to see the similarities in the two. I'm excited to show you guys!

Big sisters are the best, aren't they?

HOUSE TOUR PART 2

WOW. Guys, my eyes are just about crossing at the moment due to edit overload. Oh well! Totally worth the pain...because part 2 of the house tour is ready! Fiiiinally.

Okay, let's pretend we're turning a 180 from the kitchen to look back into the living room. Come here...I'm going to take you through this hallway and we're gonna turn to the left. To the left, to the LEFT! I know. I'll stop. ;)
Love this little photo that reminds me of our first day in beautiful paradise (Hawaii) on our honeymoon. Got the frame at Target. LOVE all the white. Obviously.

Now here is our view when we look left from the hallway with my prized photo...and you see another prized photo of ours, captured by our dear friends at Chic Shot Studio on our wedding day.

Why are you squinting like that? Oh. Let me zoom in. Hold on...

HOUSE TOUR PART 1

Ahem. Excuse me while I SQUEAL out of excitement!! I thought about showing you the entire house tour today, but then I thought it might be less tiresome to share it in two parts.

Now come on in! :)
Ahh, two of my favorite things from the Philippines that proudly shown themselves in our hallway entry. My cousins sent me that purse (it's sadly not sturdy enough to use anymore...see how it's falling apart at the strap?), and the wooden dancing lady used to be kept by my mom.

Oh. You want to see the whole lady, you say? Here, then:
She's pretty, isn't she? You might recognize her a little...she inspired this painting. And here are the fresh flowers this week. :)

Let's take a look at the living room, shall we?

THE MR.

Hey, hey! How did your weekend go?

Ours was really laid back, just the way we like it. Guess what? I managed to corner my husband and take a few photos of him, since you've already seen Xenie and me. This completes our small family!

Meet Clay:
So do you or anyone you know have eyes like his that can't decide which wonderful color to be? They turn blue, gray, and green. Mine definitely do not. Brown, brown, brown, they'll stay.
I just know Clay's so happy to be displayed, ha! I guess that's what husbands have to sometimes sacrifice for us wives, huh?

Oh guys! I'm finishing up shooting the house tour. Can't WAIT to show y'all this week. :)
